DISCOVER THE APPLICATIONS

Displays

Screens with 3-dimensional effect. Waveguide displays for augmented reality. Mesmerizing holograms on your phone. Ultra-thin screens with advanced light management.

Solar Panels

The efficiency of solar panels increases when anti-reflection and light-trapping textures are applied. Relative panel efficiency increases from 5% up to as high as 10%.

Lighting

LED or OLED lighting panels use diffusers with light-extracting-textures to give more light. With nano- and microimprinting you can directly imprint this structure on the panel itself.

We are discovering new markets as we go. Bio mimicry, identity security, micro fluidic devices, haptics, decorative panels, hydrophobicity, life sciences, anti-bacterial etc.

Enabling stunning new display technologies

Electronic devices are outfitted with nanostructures to create exciting effects. For example, backlight technology can be improved. Augmented reality, mixed reality, waveguide and lightfield displays can be enabled by imprinted diffractive structures. Furthermore, Morphotonics works closely together with leaders in the displays industry to create 3D and holographic effects.

We’ve engineered a nanoimprint mass-production line to enable manufacturers to use this technology on their products. We are proud to say, that these nano- and micro-imprint machines are state-of-the-art in high production volumes and large areas. By using flex stamps with multiple product images, many small screens can be imprinted on one large-area substrate at high speed.

Welcome to the future!

AR Textures

Solar applications benefit from applying micro-structures on the photovoltaic solar panels. Nano- or microstructures can be used to reduce reflection of the glass and can even trap light which is reflected by the cells inside the modules. This way, the available light of the sun is used to a maximum.

Surface treatment of Solar panels

Years of research by several big companies and institutes have brought us a multiple range of microstructures for these purposes. Structured films or foils which are applied to the panels are less weather-resistant. Imprinting these textures directly on the panels by roll-to-plate imprinting will reduce costs and will provide you with a thinner and clearer solution which is more durable.

Let there be light

LED and OLED lighting both benefit from optical light management features. As a point source LED lighting is not very comfortable. By using diffusive structures or light directing textures the light can be manipulated. This way comfortable lighting conditions are created without sacrificing the efficiency of the LED source. OLED lighting, on the other hand, is a comfortable light source but suffers from low output and shorter lifespan. Nanostructured light extraction layers can increase both the efficiency and operational life of an OLED lamp. With roll-to-plate imprinting light extraction layers can be applied to the inside as well as to the outside of the OLED panel. By combining internal and external light management layers the output of an OLED panel can be doubled!

Besides manipulating light, nano- and micrometer sized structures can have other functions as well. Did you know certain structures can limit the reproduction of bacteria? By imprinting textures hygienic surfaces can be created without the need for toxic materials. Geckos can climb a flat wall. Inspired by the structures on the feet of a gecko, textures can be engineered to influence adhesion. Surface structures can also influence flow of air or water (the science of tribology). Drag of air planes and ships can be reduced to save fuel and the environment. Small area products and devices can also benefit from roll-to-plate imprinting. Micro-fluidic devices or security documents have structures that can be made faster, more transparent or robust with roll-to-plate imprinting.
